The Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking sections of the IELTS paper test are attended using pencil and paper for the first three sections. The Speaking test will be conducted in person, much like the computerized exam. Many test takers will choose to take the tried-and-tested paper test for the IELTS test, even if the computer version is becoming more and more popular. While the paper format of the test may appear outdated, the advantage is that it is quite familiar and will not pose any difficulties while writing. The computer-based test has a significant downside in that your screen locks at the designated time.
