If you intend to study, work, or settle in Canada, you must take a language test to demonstrate your command of the English language. Whether you’re looking for a work visa, professional registration, or permanent residency, the IELTS General Training test may be sufficient to meet the requirements of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The IELTS Speaking test lasts approximately 11 to 14 minutes and is divided into three parts. Despite being the shortest module of the test, its significance is equal to that of the other tests. Many people fail to achieve the necessary score [band] simply because they fear attending the test in person. Many people become anxious and find it difficult to fully express themselves because of their limited vocabulary. A wide range of vocabulary can make all the difference in your band score. This article can help you do exactly the same.

Discovery, practicing, and review | A 3-step approach

You might frequently find vocabulary acquisition a difficult process. you may find it difficult to remember new phrases. The good news is that it is not as challenging as it might appear. Many people make the common mistake of thinking that acquiring vocabulary just involves exposure to a great deal of English, memorization of words, and recitation of them. Although these techniques are useful, they do not provide the whole picture. Effective vocabulary learning involves a constant cycle of Discovery, Practice, and Review. Let us break this down and see how it will assist you.

Step 1 is discovery: the first step in picking up new words is discovery. It entails learning a new term and becoming familiar with its pronunciation, form, meaning, and context. Finding words in context is a better way to acquire vocabulary than simply memorizing word lists. A competent language learner is like a detective; you must first establish whether the word is necessary before investigating it.

Step 2 is practicing: the step of practicing involves using the new term in context. It involves changing just one word in a sentence. Nouns, verb tenses, subjects, and pronouns can all be changed. By using it frequently, you give the vocabulary life and solidify its retention in your memory.

Step 3 is reviewing: the last step in the process of learning is reviewing. Here, you improve your comprehension of the new language and receive feedback. The feedback might come from a teacher or real-life experience with the new words. Observing or hearing the term used in various settings is another method of gathering feedback. Words become more meaningful to you when you see them in different contexts. Your comprehension is reinforced by every new context. For this reason, if you want to acquire vocabulary efficiently, you must make a consistent effort to expose yourself to a word in new contexts.
