Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are immigration programs designed to select individuals whose skills and experience align with the labour market needs of specific Canadian provinces and territories. Established in 1998, PNPs aim to spread the economic benefits of immigration more evenly across Canada by allowing provinces to nominate candidates who wish to settle in their region.

This week, four provinces held immigration draws through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), selecting candidates for economic immigration based on factors like work experience, current employment, education, etc. Being nominated by a province does not guarantee permanent residence. Candidates must still go through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) immigration formalities. However, it significantly boosts their application, as those who receive a provincial nomination secures an additional 600 CRS points, guaranteeing an ITA in an Express Entry draw.

In recent draws, four Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island) have invited candidates for provincial immigration under the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) category. Provincial immigration plays a crucial role in Canada’s overall immigration strategy. Through the PNPs, provinces and territories can select individuals who meet their specific labour market needs. Further, bringing skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and other professionals help to stimulate local economies. Below is an overview of the latest draws.

Prince Edward Island (PEI) | via Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI-PNP)

Last week, the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) held draws for two streams. A total of thirty-two candidates were invited under the Labour and Express Entry Stream, while one candidate was invited under the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur Stream, with a minimum point threshold of 125.

British Columbia | via British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP)

In the last week, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) conducted selection draws under its Entrepreneur Base Stream and Entrepreneur Regional Stream. A total of at least 11 invitations were issued, with varying cutoff scores for each stream:

Entrepreneur Base Stream: 10 invitations were issued with a cutoff score of 115

Entrepreneur Regional Stream: fewer than 5 invitations were issued with a cutoff score of 114

Manitoba | via Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)

In the last week, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held two draws. The first draw, under the International Education Stream, issued 297 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) to eligible candidates. The second draw, under the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream, invited 102 candidates with a minimum score of 630. In total, 399 LAAs were issued, including 43 to candidates who had a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.

Alberta | via Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Between November 29 and December 17, Alberta held 15 draws across multiple streams, inviting over 1,700 candidates, with varying minimum score requirements. The draws included pathways such as the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Alberta Express Entry Stream, Tourism and Hospitality Stream, and others. The minimum scores varied between 43 and 65, with the largest number of invitations issued in the Alberta Opportunity Stream (687 invitations) and Tourism and Hospitality Stream (260 invitations). These draws demonstrate Alberta's ongoing commitment to attracting skilled workers, especially in sectors such as healthcare, technology, tourism, hospitality, and law enforcement.
