Applications for the law enforcement professional pathway under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will be accepted at an undisclosed date this year. The AAIP, one among Canada's eleven Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), is launching a new permanent residence pathway to support Alberta's police services in addressing crime and meeting recruitment targets. This new program aims to assist Alberta Police Services due to a decline in the number of people choosing to become police officers in the province.

The AAIP law enforcement pathway will allocate 50 nominations in 2024. Prospective candidates must fulfil all Express Entry requirements to be eligible for PR. The Alberta government announced this on June 25th.

Who may utilize the new law enforcement gateway offered by Alberta?

The Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) requires applicants to hold a job offer from a AAIP member organization and meet all other Express Entry criteria. Qualifying jobs include police officers (commissioned and non-commissioned), public safety professionals, investigators, and specialized law enforcement roles.

The AAIP

The government of Alberta can recommend permanent residence for qualified immigration candidates to fill labour market gaps and meet demographic demands under the AAIP economic immigration program.

The program provides various streams for applicants who meet specific requirements.

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • Alberta Express Entry Stream
  • Accelerated Tech Pathway
  • Rural Renewal Stream
  • Farm Stream
  • Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
  • Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
  • Rural Entrepreneur Stream

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has specific requirements for each stream, such as a job offer, family ties, or education in Alberta. Due to high demand, new application rules have been implemented for the Accelerated Tech Pathway, Rural Renewal Stream, and Alberta Opportunity Steam, to ensure timely processing. The program has monthly intake limits, and applicants can reapply the following month if the cap is reached.
