Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced a temporary policy allowing some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) candidates to apply for an open work permit (OWP) until the end of 2024. That is, till 31 December 2024. However, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) may revoke this policy without prior notice.
Eligible newcomers can get an Open Work Permit (OWP) with a job offer, a valid work permit, or a permit expiring on or after May 7th. They also need a support letter from their province or territory confirming their inclusion in an application inventory procedure after an initial assessment.
According to this new policy, some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) candidates may apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) if they meet certain qualifications:
Scenario 1: The foreign national's work permit was valid on May 7, 2024, but it has since expired.
Apart from possessing a valid work permit, a foreign individual can apply for this policy if they meet the following requirements:
Scenario 2: The foreign national's work permit application is either pending or approved, and on May 7, 2024, they were granted permission to work under paragraph 186 (u) of the Regulations.
