Canada's Express Entry | Total 2,850 Candidates Selected!

The latest Express Entry draw was held by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) yesterday, i.e., on 12th March. A total of 2,850 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued in the draw, marking the sixth EE draw [in the "General" category] in 2024 and the first draw of March month in the said category. This draw introduced a notable change by setting the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score at 525, the lowest so far this year.

Express Entry candidates who meet or exceeded the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 525 were eligible to receive an invitation in the draw, showcasing a competitive yet accessible threshold. Notably, this draw's lower CRS cut-off requirement highlights the ongoing dynamism within Canada's immigration system, making the process more inclusive for a wider pool of skilled immigrants. This round did not specify a particular immigration program, indicating a broad spectrum of potential candidates from various pathways, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

This draw follows a series of diverse draws held throughout February, including category-based selections for individuals with strong French language proficiency, as well as targeted draws for candidates in healthcare, agriculture, and agri-food occupations. Express Entry candidates who have received an ITA or anticipate one are urged to stay vigilant and monitor their email inbox closely, as invitations may take up to 24 hours to arrive.

As the Express Entry system continues to evolve, it remains a cornerstone of Canada's immigration strategy, offering a streamlined pathway for skilled individuals to contribute to the country's vibrant economy and multicultural society.

The chart illustrates a noticeable pattern in the recent Express Entry draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and this trend has been received with enthusiasm. There has been a decrease in the cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, in each separate category, resulting in a higher number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) being issued to eligible candidates. This adjustment has been made to ensure that IRCC achieves its multi-year immigration target for 2024-26, aiming to welcome over 485,000 new immigrants by the end of 2024.

What is Express Entry (EE) and how does it work?

Express Entry is an electronic selection system used by the Federal as well as Provincial governments of Canada [to select], as well as designated Canadian employers [to nominate] candidates for Canadian permanent residence under three of its popular economic [skilled] immigration programs:

Candidates eligible for any of the above programs are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in the Express Entry Pool. It is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and/or French, etc. And, based on scores, candidates are periodically invited (or nominated) for permanent residence.
