The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) issued 156 invitations to Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact candidates on April 15 to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence. A total of 140 invitations were sent to the Express Entry and Labour impact applicants. Whereas 16 applicants were invited via PEI’s Business Impact category.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) enable provinces and territories in Canada to choose immigrants that suit their labour market needs. This is especially true in Prince Edward Island’s case, which has its own provincial nominee programme that follows federally approved guidelines. Streams or categories in the PNPs are sometimes aligned with the federal Express Entry system.
The PEI PNP has an Express Entry category which is aligned with the federal Express Entry system. Express Entry is a system used by the federal government of Canada to manage applications for immigration to Canada through the following economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),
Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and
Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Candidates eligible for any of these programs are given a CRS score in the Express Entry Pool. This score is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and/or French, spouse factors (if the person is married or in a common-law or conjugal relationship), etc.
Candidates who succeed in receiving a certificate of nomination from the province will get an additional CRS score of 600, which will effectively guarantee them an Invitation to Apply from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The Labour Impact Category refers to foreign nationals who have secured a legitimate job offer in the PEI with the support of their employer in Canada. It is divided into three sections:
Applicants under this category must ensure an active EOI profile to be eligible for Provincial nomination via the Labour Impact category.
The 16 candidates who were invited to participate in the Business Impact category on April 15 required a minimum points threshold of 75. These invitations were given under the Work Permit Stream, which is for foreign entrepreneurs intending to own and operate a company in PEI.
