The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) issued another record-breaking 345 invitations to candidates in all streams from the draw which was conducted on September 17, 2020. A total of 313 candidates in the Express Entry pool and candidates from Labour impact categories of Prince Edward Island (PEI) received Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada. Whereas 32 candidates were invited via PEI’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream, respectively.
The PEI PNP has an Express Entry category which is correlated with the federal Express Entry program. Express Entry is a system used by the federal government of Canada to manage applications for Canada’s three main economic-class programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),
Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and
Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Candidates eligible for any of these programs are given a CRS score in the Express Entry Pool. It is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and/or French. The highest-ranked candidates in the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residence through the regular Express Entry draws. Candidates who receive express entry scores below CRS cut-offs can apply for provincial nominations, which is one of the best as well as easiest options to increase their scores.
In order to be eligible for the PEI provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates need to create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP. Candidates who succeed in receiving the nomination, will receive an additional 600 CRS points added to their current score, which will effectively guarantee them an Invitation to Apply from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The PNP did not specify how many Express entry and Labour Impact candidates were invited in the draw, neither it specified the minimum EOI scores required for receiving nomination from the provincial government.
The Labour Impact Category refers to foreign nationals who have a legitimate job offer in the PEI with the support of their employer in Canada. It is divided into three sections:
Applicants under this category must create an EOI profile to be eligible for Provincial nomination via the Labour Impact category.
The 32 candidates who were invited to participate in the Business Impact category on September 17 required a minimum EOI score of 102. These invitations were given under the Work Permit Stream, which is for foreign entrepreneurs intending to own and operate a company/business in PEI.
