Ontario held its first Express Entry Skilled Trades stream draw on January 27, 2022, inviting 1032 Express Entry applicants to apply for a provincial nomination. To be qualified, candidates had needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 381 and 461. Candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profile between January 27, 2021, and January 27, 2022, were invited.

Those who have received an invitation have 45 calendar days to apply for a provincial nomination. If invited candidates are nominated by the province, 600 points will be automatically added to the candidate’s Express Entry profile. This will help the candidate to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) specific Express Entry draw.

Ontario’s Express Entry-linked Skilled Trades Stream provides a pathway to permanent residence mainly for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants.

About the Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream:

The Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream is a subcategory of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). It gives foreign nationals with  Ontario work experience in eligible skilled trades the opportunity to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario.

To be nominated for permanent residence by the Ontario government, candidates must have a valid profile in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry system and obtain a Notification of Interest from Ontario.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an electronic selection system used by the Federal as well as Provincial governments of Canada [to select], as well as designated Canadian employers [to nominate] candidates for Canadian permanent residence under three of its popular economic [skilled] immigration programs:

Candidates eligible for any of the above programs are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in the Express Entry Pool. It is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and/or French, etc. Based on scores, candidates are periodically invited (or nominated) for permanent residence.
