Saskatchewanians are happy and for good reason! As per the latest reports released by Statistics Canada, the job numbers in Saskatchewan increased in September 2022, with over 6,000 jobs being added compared to the number of jobs for September 2021. The newly added jobs were all full-time and this showed strong year-over-year job growth in the province.
In addition to the new jobs, the unemployment rate in Saskatchewan dropped to 4.1 percent which was the lowest among the other provinces and significantly lower than the national average of 5.2 percentage. It also mentioned that the change showed a decrease of 6.4 percent and 4.9 percent in September 2021 and August 2022, respectively.
Jeremy Harrison, the Immigration and Career Training Minister thanked the hard work and confidence shown by the job-creators across the province and stated that the economy is creating opportunities for the residents and others who are moving into the province which will lead to development that would benefit everyone.
In September 2022, full-time employment jobs increased by 9,100 (growth by 2.0 percent) and part-time jobs decreased by 3,100 (decline of 2.8 percent) Private sector employment increased the number of jobs by 4,600 (surge of 1.4 percent), which brought the youth unemployment rate to 7.6 percent. This was the lowest among the other provinces and below the national rate of 9.8 percent as compared to reports from September 2021.
Saskatchewan’s off-reserve indigenous employment was up by 3,800 jobs, an increase of 6.3 percent after 22 months of growth over the years. A rise of 700 jobs was noted among indigenous youth employment, which is an improvement of 5.5 percent for eight consecutive months over the year.
Reports suggest that healthcare and social assistance departments have increased their job numbers to 7,700 (a surge of 8.8 percent); accommodation and food services to 4,800 jobs (an increase of 16.1 percent), and professional, scientific, and technical services to 4,600 jobs (an increment of 16.5 percent) which shows a significant gain over the years.
