Many universities, companies, and governmental organizations around the world recognize the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores to be credible. IELTS is recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as an authorized English language proficiency test for applying for permanent residence in Canada, as well as educational purposes. It is acknowledged by government agencies, professional organizations, and immigration authorities. More than three million people take the test annually. The test assesses a person’s abilities in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Through this article, we intend to shine light on how a test taker could prepare well for IELTS with a one-month study plan.
A One-Month Study Plan
Preparation plays a key role when you are attempting the IELTS test. The more you prepare, the better your score will be. Since there are 4 modules to complete, you need a plan to succeed. See the following points:
- Develop different reading techniques which will make it easier for you to attend the test. A daily reading habit will go a long way. Dedicate at least 15 minutes to do some reading and read with an intention to understand. Through regular reading practice, you can observe an increase in your reading stamina and comprehension which allows you to take the test within the stipulated time.
- Take a few topics and start practicing the Writing module. Constant practice will help you with spelling and grammar. You need to learn to put down your thought in writing which will be of help, especially in task 2 [Essay].
- Watching English documentaries and movies can help with your listening skills. Active listening is crucial for the test and requires ultimate concentration. Therefore, engage in activities) such as those mentioned above) regularly to improve your listening skills. If you do not have a Netflix subscription, you could consider getting one!
- Speaking module requires you to use topic-appropriate vocabulary which you can improve through regular practice. Ensure you have a conversation with a friend or a colleague every day for at least 5-10 minutes. An active listener is also a good speaker.
