Why Avoid Simple Sentences in IELTS Writing? (Part-2)

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an internationally recognized and acknowledged English language competency test. The British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English share ownership and management of the test. IELTS evaluates a person's English language proficiency when they apply to migrate to Canada. IELTS is of 2 types: Academic IELTS and General IELTS. If you are applying for Canadian permanent residency, you must take the General IELTS test only, which satisfies both the IRCC's as well as CLB's (Canada Language Benchmarks) requirements. This article goes over a few strategies you may utilize to tackle the IELTS writing portion as well as reasons for not employing a great deal of simple phrases in your IELTS writing sample.

Usage of ample ‘lexical resources’

The Writing test evaluates your grammatical accuracy and your lexical resource (vocabulary range). Over-reliance on simple expressions might limit your opportunities to apply more complex words and phrases. By applying a range of sentence patterns, you may incorporate a wider range of language, such as academic terms, popular words, and sentence constructions. This expands and enriches the breadth of your work in addition to showcasing your lexical resources.

Completing task requirements

The IELTS Writing test includes a wide range of task types, such as essays and letters. Each assignment has certain requirements in terms of substance, tone, and arrangement. To effectively achieve these requirements, you must employ several phrase patterns that are suited for the sort of task. For instance, using complicated terms to explain arguments and provide evidence for statements in an essay may be necessary, yet using a blend of simple and compound sentences to retain a formal tone in a letter may be necessary.

Important Note! Your ability to change sentence structures to meet the assignment criteria will determine how well you do on the writing section of the IELTS exam.

More effective legibility and clarity

Using a variety of sentence structures improves the overall quality of your work and makes it easier to read and understand. Sentences that are complex and well-organized enable you to illustrate links, compare and contrast ideas, provide examples, and offer evidence. You may make sure your points of view are communicated clearly by simplifying your arguments for the reader.

In-depth analysis

In the IELTS writing test, you are regularly required to assess, judge, and justify their positions. To go thoroughly into a subject, you need to be able to express complex ideas and concepts. Simple language could not give the depth and sophistication needed to fully develop your thoughts or research complex issues. Using a range of sentence structures allows you to provide a comprehensive analysis and raise the standard of your response.

Diverse sentences

Using a variety of sentence structures adds complexity and depth to your work. Direct and monotonous words are often the simple ones. Writing becomes more dynamic and engaging when it contains more phrases, clauses, and complex, compound sentences. It captures the attention of the examiner and demonstrates your adaptability and creativity in language use.
