On January 27, Quebec held the second Arrima draw of 2022, inviting 322 skilled workers to apply for permanent selection.

These immigration candidates were asked to apply under the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI).

Candidates needed to have a valid job offer outside of the Montreal metropolitan area and a profile in the Arrima Expression of Interest system with at least 647 points.

This is Quebec’s second draw of the year, bringing the total number of invites issued to 834 in 2022. Last year, the province invited 3,564 applicants to apply for permanent selection through Arrima.

About the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program:

The Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) is an immigration program run by the province of Quebec for candidates with skilled work experience who will be able to make long-term contributions to Quebec’s economy as members of the workforce.

Even though French is the official language of Quebec, QSWP does not require applicants to demonstrate fluency in the language, making the program appealing to English speakers who want to work and live in the province. Candidates who have been invited to apply for permanent selection have 60 days to complete their applications and pay processing fees. Quebec expects to process complete applications in six months, beginning with the receipt of all essential paperwork. All forms and documents are included in this category.

Candidates will receive a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ or Quebec Selection Certificate) if they are successful. They can then use this certificate to apply to the Canadian federal government for permanent residence. Applicants who wish to settle in Quebec are evaluated using a different system than those who wish to settle elsewhere in Canada. Quebec’s immigration policies are separate from those run by the federal government of Canada.

Quebec Immigration goals for 2022:

Quebec had announced its immigration intake targets for 2022 in October 2021. Most entrants are likely to arrive through the province’s economic immigration programs, such as the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) and the Québec Experience Program (PEQ).

In 2022, the province plans for the admission of 49,500 to 52,500 immigrants across all immigration categories, plus an additional 18,000 admissions to meet the federal government’s 2020 admission levels, which were not met owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. This suggests that more than 70,000 newcomers may be accepted to Quebec in 2022.
