To help new resident graduates obtain work experience through internships, the government of Prince Edward Island is working closely with businesses and non-profit organizations based in the province.

The internship program is a part of the Digital Skills for Youth Program (DS4Y PEI), wherein the government of Prince Edward Island is partnering with the Federal government of Canada. Initially, through this program, the government will be issuing 20 internships. Employers and employees who would like to participate will be able to find more information on the official Skills PEI page of the government.

“Real-life work experience and a broad range of skills and knowledge help improve employability,” said provincial Workforce and Advanced Learning Minister Sonny Gallant. “When recent graduates have training opportunities like DS4Y PEI, they are connected with employers and can develop the experience they need to launch successful careers.”

The conditions for the internship are:

  1. The applicants need to be recent post-secondary graduates only; AND
  2. The internship program must for a minimum of 6 months

The program primarily focuses in providing knowledge on digital literacy to new interns, and also, help them succeed in the typical Canadian digital economy.

“Digital skills are becoming increasingly important every day. They widen a world of possibilities for Canadians and help improve their access to jobs,” said the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. “Our government is proud to deliver a program that will help 1,200 Canadians gain meaningful work experience and develop digital literacy required for the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
