The Government of Ontario has announced its 2019 nomination allocation based on the Federal government’s immigration intake target for the province this year. The province’s allocation this year is going to be a total of 6,650, plus an additional 250 nominations specifically for temporary foreign workers in intermediate skilled occupations – National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes under Skill Level C. This is a part of the federal government’s NOC C initiative. Canada’s minister of immigration Ahmed Hussen commented that the spaces under National Occupational Classification (NOC) Code C are aimed at increasing opportunities for temporary foreign workers to transition to Permanent Residence. Being the largest province of Canada, immigrants coming to the province through OINP are only a fraction of the total immigrants arriving Canada every year. The vast majority of new immigrants coming to Ontario are currently being streamed through federal programs like the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), etc.
The new figure shows an increase by 4.46% compared to the province’s intake volume in 2018. Last year, that is, in 2018, a total of 6,850 nominations were issued. These nominations, as per the latest figures, has successfully let to the intake of a total of 13,780 new immigrants, including family members.
Through the Ontario’s Human Capital Priorities Stream (which is managed through the Express Entry selection system) the government successfully issued a total of 2,190 nominations last year. The below table shows the different streams of OINP and the number of nominations in each in 2018.
