Canada's Express Entry Selection | 1,325 Invitations Issued

In the Express Entry draw that was conducted on 18 December, Canada's Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued invitations to apply (ITAs) to 1,325 candidates in a comprehensive draw covering all programs – that is, an all-program selection draw.

This draw comes after the latest outcomes on December 8, where 5,900 candidates were issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 481 in a selection draw based on categories [STEM occupations]. On December 7 also, there was a category-specific Express Entry draw targeting individuals possessing French language skills .A total of 1,000 candidates had received invitation in this draw and they required a minimum CRS score of 470 to be invited. Furthermore on December 6, an all-program draw was conducted, targeting candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 561. This marked the initial draw in more than a month, with the preceding one being a category-focused selection draw for candidates in healthcare occupations [the one that was conducted on 26 October of this year].

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) did not officially explain the reason behind the brief halt in draws. However, on November 14, the department acknowledged via a tweet that there was a technical problem with the Express Entry profile builder. This issue specifically affected candidates who had received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and were attempting to submit their final applications on the IRCC's website. On November 16, two days after the acknowledgment of the technical issue on November 14, the department announced the resolution of the glitch.

The chart illustrates a noticeable pattern in the recent Express Entry draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and this trend has been received with enthusiasm. There has been a decrease in the cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, in each separate category, resulting in a higher number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) being issued to eligible candidates. This adjustment has been made to ensure that IRCC achieves its multi-year immigration target for 2023-25, aiming to welcome over 500,000 new immigrants by the end of 2023.

What is Express Entry (EE) and how does it work?

Express Entry is an electronic selection system used by the Federal as well as Provincial governments of Canada [to select], as well as designated Canadian employers [to nominate] candidates for Canadian permanent residence under three of its popular economic [skilled] immigration programs:

Candidates eligible for any of the above programs are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in the Express Entry Pool. It is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and/or French, etc. And, based on scores, candidates are periodically invited (or nominated) for permanent residence.
