IRCC To Execute Modest Steps to Fortify Canada's Immigration Systems

Canada’s long-term success is heavily reliant on immigration. The changes are to ensure that newcomers have the best experience possible. Canada must have a strong, user-friendly, and adaptable immigration system. Canada is known for its welcoming attitude towards immigrants and has been ranked among the top countries in the world for immigrants to settle in.

Canada was the most preferred destination by immigrants in 2022.

Immigration is also considered a crucial factor in Canada’s economic growth and demographic makeup by the government. The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship has launched an initiative called “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future” to gather feedback from Canadians about how immigration policies and programs can support the country’s vision for the future. This engagement will involve in-person discussions, workshops, and a public survey, and the input collected will inform the development of future immigration policies and programs. The goal is to create a system that will benefit communities across Canada for many years to come.

The future of Canada’s immigration system will require collaboration from various partners and stakeholders, including government levels, businesses, academics, settlement organizations, and individuals seeking immigration. To ensure diversity of perspectives, an engagement initiative has been launched to gather insights from all involved sectors.

Minister Sean Fraser led the first discussion meeting in Halifax as part of the effort to promote engagement. During the meeting, both the Minister and attendees shared their perspectives and discussed ways to enhance Canada’s immigration policies and programs to meet the needs of various communities across the country. He emphasised that if one is interested in helping  to shape Canada’s immigration system, can participate in an upcoming survey that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will launch in March. The survey will be open to the public, and there will also be opportunities for engagement through dialogue sessions and thematic workshops with stakeholders. Mr Fraser also stated that immigration plays a crucial role in Canada’s long-term prosperity, and it’s essential to ensure that the policies and programs are in line with the requirements of the communities. To achieve this goal, the Government of Canada is initiating an extensive engagement effort that will allow a broad spectrum of stakeholders and Canadians to contribute their ideas and viewpoints to establish a more resilient and adaptable immigration system that benefits Canada’s future.
