IRCC Increases International Students' Off-Campus Job Hours

IRCC Increases International Students' Off-Campus Job Hours

Samuel Francis Gills Published:
October 15, 2022

The Honorable Sean Fraser who is Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced on the 7th of October that there will be temporary lifting of the 20-hour per week restriction on the number of hours that qualified post-secondary students are permitted to work off-campus while classes are in session.

International students studying in Canada who have off-campus job permission included on their study permit will not be subjected to the 20-hour restriction from November 15, 2022 to December 31, 2023. This interim adjustment will also apply to foreign nationals who have already applied for a study permit by 7th October 2022, provided their application is granted.

This modification to the IRCC’s study permit requirements does not affect the requirements for applications under the International Education Stream (IES). The eligibility pages of each IES pathway contain information on who is eligible to apply to the IES.
