The Canadian province of Alberta is observing August as the Hindu heritage month. The Hindu community in Alberta have roots all over the world. Proud to be Albertans, they have made significant contributions to the culture, heritage & legacy of Alberta. On this Hindu Heritage Month, Minister of Culture Ron Orr and Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism Muhammad Yaseen issued the following statement:

“In Alberta, August is Hindu Heritage Month. It is a significant month for Hindus because it coincides with Raksha Bandhan, a celebration of brotherly and sisterly love, Janmashtami, the birthdate of Lord Krishna, and India’s Independence Day.

Hindu communities in Alberta have roots from all over the world. We encourage everyone to learn more about the history of Hindu communities and their important role in our province’s cultural, economic, and social life as part of our commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming Alberta for all.

On behalf of the Government of Alberta, we wish all members of Hindu communities a joyous month of celebration of their faith, customs, and traditions.”
