Direct flights to Canada from India will resume from September 27 as Canada lifts its ban on direct flights from India. But travelers will have to comply to the public health measures like testing and even quarantine.

The additional measures travelers will have to follow are:

  • They will have to show proof of negative covid-19 molecular test from Genestrings laboratory at Delhi airport taken within 18 hours of the scheduled departure of their direct flight to Canada.

  • The air operators will be checking the travelers test results prior to boarding ensuring they are eligible for traveling to Canada. Also, the fully vaccinated travelers need to upload their information into the ArriveCan mobile app or website. You can download ArriveCan smartphone application here:

Three direct flights from Canada arrived in India on September 22. Passengers on these flights will be tested for Covid-19 to ensure that the new measures are working as intended. Travelers from India taking indirect route will also need a negative Covid-19 molecular test done within 72 hours of departure before continuing their journey to Canada.

Since April 2021, direct passenger flights from India to Canada were on halt as both countries saw a rise in the coronavirus cases. Only cargo operations, medical transfer or military flights have been allowed between the two countries.

What travelers need to keep in mind while travelling to Canada

  • For travelers to be exempted from quarantine, they need to provide border officers negative Covid-19 test results and proof of vaccination. The travelers may need to plan a 14-day quarantine after landing. Passengers may also be selected at random to conduct a Covid-19 test upon arrival.

  • All travelers arriving in Canada will need to download ArriveCan mobile application to submit their personal and travel information.

  • To be exempt from quarantine, travelers will need to show proof of vaccination with a Canada approved vaccine – Astra Zeneca [i.e., Covishield], Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen (Johnson and Johnson).

  • Those travelers who are not fully vaccinated will be allowed to travel to Canada only for essential reasons like family, work, school, compassionate reasons, or immigration.

  • Canadian citizens and permanent residents as well as their family members who are not yet fully vaccinated can enter Canada but will have to quarantine themselves at home.

  • Individuals under the age of 12 who are yet to receive vaccination will be allowed to enter Canada without observing quarantine, provided their parent or guardian is fully vaccinated and is accompanying them.

  • Individuals who are travelling for an essential reason without vaccination will be allowed to enter but will need to observe a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
