On June 10, Canada welcomed 6,000 more Express Entry applicants to apply for Permanent Residence. Candidates with a score of at least 368 were invited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to apply for permanent residence. The candidates who received invitation in this draw was invited to apply under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program.

The key eligibility requirement that the candidates needed was one year experience of skilled work in Canada (anytime in the last 10 years) and intermediate language proficiency in English or French.

In the new draw, candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profile before April 28, 2021, at 05:45:14 UTC with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 368 were invited. So far, this draw saw one of the lowest CRS score cut-off in the CEC-only draw held in Canada. The previous lowest cut-off in the same category was 380. The record-breaking lowest score in the CEC-only draw was held on February 13, when candidates with CRS scores as low as 75 were invited. The below graph below shows CEC-only draw cut-off scores for the last 7 draws.

A total of 27,332 people were invited through the historic draw that was conducted on February 13 (under CEC), and around 87 percent of those who were invited applied for permanent residence before the 90-day deadline, said Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

“Canada will reopen its borders to international travel, and restrictions will be eased in phases,” said the government. The 14-day quarantine will be the first to go for travellers who have been fully vaccinated, suggested the health minister.

In 2021, amid travel restrictions 108,500 new immigrants have invited through Express Entry managed (aligned) programs. The country is also planning to admit a record-breaking number of new immigrants over the next three years, about which you can read here. The graph below shows the number of Invitation to Apply (ITA) issued by the government of Canada in 2021 as compared to 2020.

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage Canadian permanent residence applications for three of its popular economic immigration programs:

Express Entry applicants receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on various factors like their work experience, age, educational qualification, proficiency in English and/or French language, etc. Candidates are selected from the Express Entry pool by the Federal government of Canada (by issuing an Invitation to Apply), Canadian provinces (by means of NOI or LAA) as well as designated Canadian employers who are looking to fill labour shortages.
