British Columbia hosted another round of invitations on September 15th, allowing 407 immigration applicants to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada. The draw invited skilled workers and international student graduates from the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) streams. The minimum scores for this draw ranged between 75 and 95 points.

The EEBC category is for applicants with a valid profile in the Express Entry system of the federal government, which is Canada‘s key route for qualified immigrants who are seeking to gain permanent residence. The SI category is for skilled and semi-skilled workers whose occupations are in high demand in the province of British Columbia.

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) categories are managed under BC’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). In order to apply via the SIRS, qualifying candidates must first register an account. Candidates eligible for any of these programs are given a CRS score in the Express Entry Pool. It is based on their Core/Human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language ability in English and French. The highest-ranked candidates in the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residence through the regular Express Entry draws. Candidates who receive express entry scores below CRS cut-offs can apply for provincial nomination programs, which is the best option to increase the scores. The highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool are issued ITAs in regular invitation rounds.

Categories that are governed under the SIRS require applicants to have a job offer from an employer in BC. Candidates who succeed in receiving the nomination, an additional 600 CRS points will automatically be awarded, which will effectively guarantee them an Invitation to Apply from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The Province holds weekly draws, with the previous draw being held on September 8. So far this year, more than 6,000 immigration candidates were invited to apply via PNP and Tech Pilot draws for a provincial nomination in Canada respectively.

Express Entry draws continue to be held on a bi-weekly basis. The Government of Canada had issued 4,200 invitations for Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence in the recent draw that was held on 16 September 2020. The large number of invitations issued in this draw is a strong indication that Canada remains committed in welcoming more applicants in 2021 and beyond.

So far this year, IRCC has issued 74,150 ITAs and has stated that it will continue to make efforts to welcome high levels of new immigrants in the coming years and beyond.
