Express Entry Draw | Canada Invites 3,300 Candidates via CEC

Towards the end of August, Canada held its 161st  Express Entry draw inviting a total of 3,300 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence. A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 454 was enough to ensure an Invitation to Apply (ITA). An increase of 9 nine points can be seen compared to the previous CEC- specific draw that was held on July 23, 2020.

Express Entry is the selection system used by the federal government of Canada to manage Canadian permanent residence applications received through three main economic-class programs:

Candidates who are eligible for any of these programs are given a CRS score in the Express Entry Pool. Applicants are ranked against each other on the basis of age, qualifications, language skills, job experience and other variables.

The highest-ranked candidates in the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residence through the regular Express Entry draws. Candidates who receive express entry scores below CRS cut-offs can apply for provincial nomination programs, which is one of the best options to increase their scores. The highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool are issued ITAs through regular invitation rounds. (The graph below showcases ITAs issues in 2020).

This draw brings the total number of ITAs issued this year to 65,750, a new record till date.

The time between draws is an essential factor which can influence the CRS cut-off point. Larger intervals between draws means, more candidates have time to enter their profile in the Express Entry pool. (check the graph below for CRS cut off score and time between each draws)

The tie break rule is used for the classification of candidates with the same CRS scores. The primary consideration for the selection of applicants for permanent residence is directly proportional to their CRS scores in the Express Entry system.

Tie-break rule applied in this draw saw the date and time used as of July 27, 2020, at 11:10:05 UTC. It means all candidates with a CRS score of 454 and above, and who submitted their profiles before the mentioned date & time received an ITA from the federal government of Canada.

Candidates who wish to enter their profiles in the Express Entry pool can do so despite COVID-19. IRCC continues to accept applications for Express Entry and process their permanent residence applications as per the usual application processing timelines.
