Ontario has announced the launch of a new Regional Immigration Pilot Program by the end of third week of December. This program is designed to attract newcomers to less populated communities.
The Ontario immigrant nominee program pilot aims at filling the labour demand in local communities. The program is proposed to be available for a period of two years.
The communities that are in focus are Chatham-Kent, Cornwall and Belleville/Quinte West.
Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli says “Our government is committed to growing economic immigration and connecting job creators in small and rural communities with the talent they need to expand and succeed”.
Through this Regional Immigration pilot, businesses in the area will now have the ability to meet employment requirements that are existing now. This program will also create more and better job opportunities.
This program has an allocation of approximately 150 nominations and it falls under the existing OINP Employer Job offer category. The employer job offer category is designed to help employers to hire candidates for in-demand occupation, both foreign workers and international students.
Candidates can apply from within Canada or outside Canada.
Ontario has also announced that it will be adding manufacturing NOC codes to the OINP in-Demand skills stream in this coming year and they have also raised a request to the federal government to increase its allocation cap in 2020. The province has received an additional 700 slots after filling its allocation for 2019.
