Canadian immigration is much more effective than U.S. immigration

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made incredible remarks on the achievements of Canada over the U.S. in terms of immigration in the Fortune Most Powerful Women International Summit held in Montreal, Quebec.

“It is Canada’s immigration policies,” says Trudeau, “that gives the big advantage when compared to immigration to the United States.” The summit held in Montreal brought together women CEOs, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and senior representatives of the government of Canada.

“We are able to take in almost 1% of our population every year in immigration (a little over 300,000) and we’re able to do that because it’s a system that Canadians have confidence in; it’s rules-based, it’s controlled,” Trudeau added.

Canada’s multi-year immigration plan (2018 to 2020) aims to welcome 310,000 new permanent residents this year 2018, 330,800 in 2019, 341,000 in 2020 and 350,000 in 2021.

Canada’s Minister of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, said the multi-year immigration plan will enhance Canada’s economy, which is currently facing widespread labor shortages. This is because, as per the recent statistics, a large portion of Canada’s population is ageing, and more workers are retiring. The minister also remarked that the growing levels of economic immigration will help Canadian sustain the adequate labor force, enhance economic growth, and trigger innovation.

In the summit, Trudeau spoke about the valuable contributions that has been made by immigrants, and said that Canadian have always been “Positively Inclined” towards immigration and knows that it is the immigrants who played a key role in the creation of Canada’s success.

“Being able to get the top talent and draw on big pools of well-educated, ambitious, forward-thinking and diverse people is a hell of a competitive advantage that I don’t see the U.S. matching anytime soon,” Trudeau added.
